Four Artists Featured at ART SPACE- June

On Wednesday June 18, lovers of art will once again be filling the streets of Rockland for the ARTS IN ROCKLAND (AIR) gallery tours. ART SPACE Gallery will be providing free but elegant snacks to the public from 5 to 8 pm for the second reception of the season. Four artists will be featured, and the work of all resident artists will be on display. Featured artists are Len Clarke, Barbara Fischer Eldred, Jeannette Martin, and Rebecca Rivers. The gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through June and will be open every day beginning in July.

Len Clarke of Port Clyde works in a variety of media, including etching, photographic etching, oil, watercolor, sculpture and photography. His art will include recent digital images and Iris Giclée prints of Maine including "winterjammers" ("windjammers" in their winter coats [perhaps pajamas] )in Camden Harbor, images from Maine Fiddle Camp, and images of the Frank Gehry designed Marqués de Riscal Hotel taken recently in the Rioja wine region of Northern Spain.

Barbara Fischer Eldred was surrounded by the work of her sculptor parents from birth.  She lives in East Boothbay on the Damariscotta River and creates magical pieces in stone, clay, monoprint, watercolor and pastel. Barbara works from her studio on Union Street in Boothbay Harbor.  She is  a co-op member of Salt River Artisans Gallery on Route 27 and a long standing member of Boothbay Region Art Foundation in Boothbay Harbor.

Jeannette Martin of Port Clyde, Maine and Belmont, Massachusetts, works primarily in oil and watercolor. She creates piercing portraits, still life and exquisite landscapes that capture the Maine coastal landscape.

Rebecca Rivers lives in Searsport. Part of her inspiration is a yearly week on Monhegan Island with friends. "Beck" is drawn to water, salt or fresh, and her paintings are "a joyful answer to that call."  A watercolor artist, Rebecca balances vibrant color with realism and joyous freedom with controlled detail. Her paintings provide a threshold designed to carry the viewer to the essence of things.

Other artists shown at the gallery for the 2008 season are Erik Amundson, Laurie Lofman Bellmore, Dan Bennett, Jill  Caldwell, Amy Cornell, Anne Cronin, Dan Daly, Sandra Dunn,  Randy Fein, Kathleen Fox, Peg Fields/John Dehlinger, JoAnne Houlsen, Nat Lewis, Hannah Nelsbach, Antje Roitzsch, Marjorie Strauss, Marjorie Walsh and Joan Wright.
