| ART SPACE GALLERY OPENS FOR 2008 |
|
The professional artists of
ART SPACE at 342 Main Street in Rockland don’t just paint, or sculpt, they
also spackle and paint the walls, take out the garbage, vacuum the rugs
and serve the wine. They are making the art and sharing the presenting of
it as well. People interested in a wide variety, interesting and unusual
mix of art by local artists can attend the gallery Tuesday through
Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm. beginning May 9, featuring several new and
returning Maine artists. People who stop in at Art Space beginning in early May and throughout the year will be greeted by one of the artists. Many will be working in their chosen media while they are gallery sitting. Featured May 9 through 23 are new and returning artists Anne Cronin, Dan Daly, Sandra Dunn, Barbara Fischer Eldred, Peg Fields, Kathleen Fox, Jeannette Martin, Hannah Nelsbach, Antje Roitzsch, Marjorie Strauss and Joan Wright. Their artistic endeavors range from sculpture to jewelry, watercolor, oils, pastel, monoprint and photography. Antje Roitzsch works creatively on sculptures in bronze, cement or plaster. The work ranges in size from objet d'art to garden sculpture or public and corporate art. On a small scale she creates jewelry and wearable art. Anne Cronin is a Belfast artist who captures light and shadows in her Maine landscapes. Sandra Dunn is an artist, illustrator and art educator who has illustrated several children’s books. She creates small realistic /impressionistic still life and landscapes. Dan Daly creates masterful watercolors featuring Maine inland and coastal scenes and materials. Barbara Fischer Eldred, the product of two sculptors, produces clay sculptures, paintings and monoprints. Born in Germany, she now lives in East Boothbay. Hannah Nelsbach was also born in Germany and for many years painted bone china. She currently brings poems and music alive on canvas. Joan Wright’s work in pastels, photography and ceramics reflects the interplay of light at her favorite haunts on the Island of Vinalhaven. Well known returning artists Kathleen Fox, from St. George (local watercolors) and Marjorie Strauss, from Rockland, (sculpture, mixed media works, pastel) are coming home to Art Space after a season immersed in their art with much new material to share. New artists Peg Fields, from St. George will be showing landscapes in watercolor and egg tempera by her late husband John Dehlinger. Jeannette Martin, who formerly ran a gallery in Port Clyde, will be showing her landscapes, still lifes and portraits. Professional artists who are returning to Art Space are: Erik Amundsen, Laurie Lofman Bellmore, Dan Bennett, Jill Caldwell, Len Clarke, Amy Cornell, Randy Fein, JoAnne Houlsen, Nat Lewis, and Rebe |
