Anne Wooster
Metcalfe has been an artist and a lover of nature all of her life. Growing
up in Waldoboro, she took art lessons from established artists and attended
Medomak Valley High School. She later attended Maryland Institute College of
Art in Baltimore. Throughout the years, she has been inspired by her
mother’s garden employing various mediums. At Haystack, she was introduced to monotypes and fell in love with printing the flora of Maine. Monotypes are reminiscent of photography yet feel like painting. Each print is an original. While an individual leaf may be used in more than one print, its color and composition always change. Upon her introduction to the monotype process, Anne found her inspiration to full fill her dreams. Devoting herself to art full-time, Anne gathers her printing material from her gardens, friends’ gardens and the local country side. She feels her art is a necessary expression of the beauty of her life. |
