Len Clarke of Port Clyde works in a variety of media including etching, photographic etching, oil painting, watercolor and photography. Regardless of the medium, he focuses on the emotional content of the image rather than its realistic representation often juxtaposing different images into a consolidated whole. Clarke brings a unique background to his work including studying under Gyorgy Kepes at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Urban Design program as well as the Corcoran College of Art, Washington DC, and various art schools and workshops in Maine. Many of his images emerge from his extensive travel on both land and sea during which he endeavors to capture visually different patterns of living and survival. |
